What is Project Vessel?

Straight to the point, Vessel is the code name of a horror themed, narrative-driven, third person shooter with focus on melee combat, that is in the builds right now. I guess the next question to solve is: Why building a website and a blog for a project that doesn't exist yet? Well, lets try to answer this!

Who I am?

I'm Rickperros, a game dev with nearly 7 years of professional experience in the AAA industry. During those years I worked on titles such as Gothic Remake, Days Gone Remastered, and yada yada yada. I'm also a teacher at Tecnocampus University imparting few subjects on the Videogames design and production degree. Long story short, teaching and making games are my two passions. Since I can't disclosse barely anything on how I work in the industry projects I decided to pursue my dream and build a game of my own. I hope you will join me on this adventure!

Okey, but why the website?

One thing that I wish I had more space on the university to teach is the reasoning behind the decisions that are taken during a development. I mean creative, financial, architectural, and artistic decisions. Those decisions that are really weird to talk about agnostically. That's the aim of this blog, track and explain why those decisions are taken from an on-going project. I will also explain how I'm producing, coding, and designing the project, to give context on those decisions.

What do I gain with all that extra work?

The satisfaction of knowledge sharing, maybe some sporadic donation to contribute bringing Vessel to life, but most important: I hope to build a community! Making games is really difficult but is something that I know how to do. Selling games, though, is even more difficult and this will be my first time doing it on my own. I hope that having a community will make Vessel successful.

What is the game about?

While I will cover this in depth in the next post, Vessel tells the story of Lucas, a tragic and unlikely hero, rescuing Eva and seeing C’Lna’l’s advent to the world. It will be a coral game that mixes eldritch horror with Resident Evil 4 gameplay style.

Since the game is still being done, can I engage?

Abosuletly! Creativity works best in community and I love to discuss ideas (both technical and creative). You can join me on Vessel discord server, send me an email, or drop a comment!

Okay, but really, what can I expect of this blog?

First of all, full transparency. I will talk about project changes, budgets, timelines, the plot, even the code structure. If you want me to cover some field more in detail just ask for it! Which brings me the question, what do you hope to read on this posts? How can I make them more appealing to you?

Soon you will discover that Vessel is in really early stages, but as a wise man once said journey before destination! Let's begin!
